Help! Honolulu AIDS Walk 2017 Frequently Asked Questions

Many questions my arise when participating in the Honolulu AIDS Walk and we are here to help ensure that you have the best walk experience possible. Below are some common questions we are asked, we hope this answers any questions you many have. If for some reason your question is still unanswered please CONTACT US. We will be more than happy to answer your questions or address your concerns.

 

Who is Blackbaud?

Blackbaud is a marketing infrastructure service provider offering advanced Internet fundraising solutions to charitable, educational and political organizations. Life Foundation has contracted with us to provide online support for the Honolulu AIDS Walk 2015. Through the website you can register for the event, collect donations from family and friends and more.

Is it really FREE to participate in the Honolulu AIDS Walk?

Yes it is 100% free! We are truly appreciative of all our walkers and understand that some of our walkers would not be able to participate if we set a participation fee. As you can imagine some of our walkers walk to remember a loved one who has passed because of AIDS and some walk to show support of someone living with HIV. We do not want to turn anyone away from participating. The Honolulu AIDS Walk is also the largest HIV/AIDS awareness event in Hawaii.

How does the Honolulu AIDS Walk raise money if there are no registration fees?

We have wonderful support from the community that we are so thankful for! The walk does receive monetary sponsorship support but the majority of the monies raised come from YOU our walkers. Our walkers help out by making a personal donation or by asking their family, friends, and co-workers for donations to support the fight against HIV in Hawaii. We do in return provide fundraising incentive prizes for various levels of fundraising and well as award larger prizes to our top 3 individual fundraisers and our top fundraising team.

Where does the money raised from the walk go?

100% of the monies raised will stay here in Hawaii and help continue to provide services for all clients seeking support, testing, or care services from Life Foundation. Since its inception in 1983 all of the services Life Foundation provides to the community have been 100% free of charge and this walk helps ensure that no one is ever turn away or denied access to HIV care, treatment, counseling, and testing.

How do I get a Honolulu AIDS Walk commemorative shirt?

Since we do not charge any registration fees we ask our walkers to raise $100 in order to receive their shirt. In other walks the cost of your shirt is included in your registration fees. Those who volunteer to work at the Honolulu AIDS Walk will receive a special volunteer shirt for donating their time and energy.

Where can I park?

Thousands of people will be participating in Honolulu AIDS Walk! We highly recommend carpooling with your friends/teammates or by taking public transportation. Parking is available within the Kapiolani Park and Waikiki Shell parking lots and also will be available on the streets surrounding the park. Please be aware of parking meters and reserved parking. The Honolulu AIDS Walk is not responsible if your cars are ticketed or towed because you parked in an unauthorized spot. Additionally we have set up parking at Kapiolani Community College and will provide a free shuttle will be running back and forth between KCC to Kapiolani Park from 7am-12pm. How long is this walk and what is the walk route?

The Honolulu AIDS Walk is a 5K (3 mile) walk. The walk begins at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand goes around Kapiolani Park following the sidewalk crossing over and around the Honolulu Zoo and ending back at the bandstand. The average walker takes about 30 minutes to complete if they are leisurely taking their time. CLICK HERE to see the walk route map.

Where do I go when I arrive?

Any walkers that need to turn in donations or collect prize incentives can do so at the Registration Tent. When you check in and confirm your donation totals with the volunteers working the registration tent they will provide you with prize incentive coupons accordingly. (We do this to help the lines at the registration tent move faster.) Prize coupons can be redeemed at the Prize Tent until 11:30am. If you do not need to turn in any donation or collect prize incentive you are welcome to visit the various booths and partake in the bandstand activities.

Will there be a water station?

There will be a water station at the Finish Line area only. Water will be free to our walkers; we do encourage you to bring your own water containers if you feel you will need water along the walk route.  

What time does the walk start and finish?

The event itself begins at 8am with activities and vendors on site. The walk begins at 10am, the average walker takes about 30 minutes to finish the walk. The event wraps up at 11:30am. We encourage everyone to come early to enjoy all that the walk has to offer and also to stick around after to enjoy the rest of the morning with us.

Will there be an ATM machine on site?

Unfortunately there is no ATM machine at Kapiolani Park and we will not be bringing in a temporary one. If you anticipate you will need cash please visit an ATM prior to coming down. We will have food vendors and a silent auction you may want to visit at the walk.

Does the walk accept credit card donations?

Yes, credit cards will be accepted at the walk via Square processing. You may also make a credit card donation online by CLICKING HERE.

Please write all checks out to Life Foundation. The Honolulu AIDS Walk is an event that is run and organized by Life Foundation.

Will I be receiving a receipt when I make a donation?

If you make a donation online you will receive a confirmation email of your donation amount, please save this in your records for tax purposes. Life Foundation is a 501c3 registered non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. Online donations of $250 or more will also receive a physical thank you letter in the mail. Donations collected at the walk will be brought back to the office and manually entered in the week following. Please make sure you fill out your donor information so we can get your receipt to you.

When will the top 3 fundraisers and top fundraising team be announced and awarded their prizes?

Since donations are still being turned in at the walk and often times the top 3 fundraisers are so close we do not announce those winners until a week after the walk. This allows us enough time to enter all donations and ensure the prizes are awarded to the correct individuals. The top fundraising team will be announced at the end of the walk. Team totals will be a combination of online totals, amount turned in at the walk, and matching donation totals. (If your company makes matching donations on behalf of your fundraising efforts to the walk please let us know and we will calculate this amount into your teams overall fundraising totals. *Company matching will need to be verified through an official company matching program document.)
